Birds in Winter
This month we have been very busy caring for the birds. We began by noticing how cold and frosty it was outside and that all the birds needed some food to keep them warm throughout the winter.
We got busy making our very own bird food using one of the birds favourite recipes and hung it all up in our garden. This involved some climbing so we could reach high up into the tree. We also used some shop bought food to fill up our bird feeders and hang them up too. It was then time to do a spot of bird watching! We took part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird watch and observed lots of birds coming to our garden area. The starling and blackbirds were the species we saw most of though we did see a robin, blue tits and even some coal tits.
As it is so important to look after the birds we got our families involved over the past few weeks making our own bird feeders and bird food at home. Then of course we did our very own Big Garden Bird watch at home in our gardens!
Throughout the month we enjoyed linking our learning to other areas of play, in particular we were busy painting birds and drawing birds on clay tiles.
